Automation Engineer

    Overview:
    We’re looking for a skilled Automation Engineer to support, maintain, and improve automation systems within an automotive Body Shop environment. This role involves hands-on troubleshooting, equipment design, process improvement, and cross-functional collaboration to enhance productivity and efficiency on the production line.


    Key Responsibilities:
    1. Maintenance & Troubleshooting

    • Diagnose and resolve technical issues related to automated systems, including robotic arms, PLCs, conveyors, welding tools, and electrical components.
    • Support the Body Shop’s daily operations, ensuring minimal downtime and optimal equipment performance.

    2. Equipment Design & Development

    • Contribute to the design and installation of new automation systems (electrical, mechanical, and control). 
    • Participate in equipment fabrication, buy-off, and commissioning stages.
    • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to optimize machinery and processes.

    3. Analysis & Reporting

    • Investigate faults and implement corrective actions using structured problem-solving tools such as 5D and 8D.
    • Document issues, solutions, and improvements in detailed technical reports.

    4. Training & Knowledge Transfer

    • Train technicians and maintenance staff on PLC programming, robotics, and control systems.
    • Promote continuous improvement by sharing expertise and best practices.


    Required Qualifications:

    • Bachelor’s degree in Automation Control Engineering or a related field.
    • Minimum 2 years of experience in automation maintenance, servicing, design, or installation, preferably in an automotive manufacturing environment.
    • Strong technical knowledge of electrical and control systems (e.g. MCB, VFD, PLC, HMI, sensors, valves, robotics).
    • Proficiency in Rockwell PLC and HMI programming.
    • Familiarity with Ethernet/IP communications and I/O device integration.
    • Ability to read and modify electrical diagrams and use AutoCAD for design tasks.
    • Good written and verbal English communication skills.

    Preferred Qualifications:

    • C/C++ programming knowledge.
    • Hands-on experience with Kawasaki robots.
    • Understanding of North American and European safety and electrical standards.
    • Basic knowledge of welding technologies: spot welding, laser welding, MIG/MAG
    • Experience designing welding fixtures in Body Shop applications.
    • Familiarity with FMEA, 5D, and 8D problem-solving tools.
    • Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills.
    • Team-oriented with excellent collaboration and interpersonal skills.
    • Proactive, self-driven, and committed to continuous improvement.
