Business Development Manager - Coal Tender

    MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

    An experienced business development and sales leader to develop, execute, and manage the coal sales and marketing function for Thermal coal in Vietnam. This role will be responsible for planning and executing strategies to expand market share, especially through government-related tenders. The successful candidate must proactively engage with customers across Vietnam, including top Gencos, SOEs, cement manufacturers, and private traders.

    A key success factor for this role is the ability to penetrate and win large-scale coal tenders. This will require leveraging an extensive network within government bodies and state-owned enterprises, and building direct relationships with high-level decision makers to promote the company’s offerings and negotiate contracts effectively. The candidate should be capable of driving deal momentum and managing the full sales cycle from lead generation through contract execution.

    STRATEGIC RESPONSIBILITIES

    • Lead marketing and sales strategy planning in alignment with the company’s broader business direction.
    • Develop systems and tools for performance tracking, forecasting, and reporting.
    • Monitor performance versus annual and long-term strategic goals.
    • Plan and manage sales budgets and cost forecasts.

    SALES RESPONSIBILITIES

    • Drive the execution of CFR, FOB, VND sales contracts and manage coal tender participation.
    • Build and maintain pricing and allocation strategies in line with market trends.
    • Execute risk management frameworks related to tendering and contracting.
    • Maintain regular in-person engagement with key customers and decision-makers.
    • Develop effective marketing and customer engagement models.
    • Foster close integration between marketing, port, and mine operations.

    GOVERNMENT RELATIONSHIP & TENDERING FOCUS

    • Proactively identify and pursue coal tender opportunities in the Vietnamese market.
    • Establish and maintain strong, strategic relationships with high-ranking officials and leaders in government agencies, ministries, SOEs, and regulatory bodies.
    • Influence key decision-making processes to gain access to and win tenders.
    • Represent the company at relevant government, industry, and tender-related forums.

    LEADERSHIP

    • Provide clear commercial direction and reporting to senior management.
    • Coach and support internal sales and shipping team members.
    • Promote a culture of accountability, performance, and collaborative teamwork.

    EDUCATION

    • Bachelor’s Degree in economics, marketing, business, finance, or supply chain. A relevant postgraduate degree is a plus.

    EXPERIENCE & OTHER REQUIREMENTS

    • Minimum 10 years of experience in sales, marketing, or business development roles within the thermal coal industry.
    • Proven success in securing large-volume sales contracts via government and SOE tenders in Vietnam.
    • Deep professional network within Vietnam’s energy, cement, and government sectors.
    • Strong experience negotiating with high-level government and enterprise stakeholders.
    • Expertise in coal pricing, CFR and spot sales, and risk management.
    • Experience leading a substantial sales and shipping team.
    • Excellent commercial drafting skills and fluency in both English and Vietnamese.
