1. Purpose
The Chief Accountant is responsible for overseeing financial accounting and reporting, ensuring financial integrity. This role collaborates with regional shared service teams and manages operational accounting functions, ensuring timely and accurate financial processing, period-end closing, and compliance with both group and local statutory reporting requirements.
2. Scope of the Role

3. Key Responsibilities
a. Financial Reporting & Compliance
- Ensure accurate and timely financial reporting, including local statutory requirements, and submission of financial statements in Cognos Controller, BS Reconciliation, and related reports within designated timelines.
- Execute month-end closing tasks such as overhead allocation, account reconciliations, and maintaining closing schedules.
- Analyze and explain discrepancies between actual financial results and budgeted figures.
- Ensure adherence to accounting policies, regulatory guidelines, and the Control Framework.
- Coordinate with internal and external auditors to maintain statutory compliance.
b. Financial Management
- Supervise the accounting team, ensuring transactions are recorded accurately and in line with accounting principles.
- Oversee and process payroll, accounts payable, revenue/expenses, fixed assets, cash, bank reconciliations, and related allocations.
- Provide financial support to the business, assisting in escalated queries, including PTP, GRNI reconciliation, and supplier issues.
c. Working Capital & Costing Management
- Monitor working capital components, including cash, inventory, receivables, and payables, ensuring alignment with KPI targets.
- Manage accounts receivable, ensuring timely collections and appropriate provisions for doubtful debts.
- Conduct monthly variance analysis and provide cost insights to optimize margins, pricing strategies, and cost-saving initiatives.
- Analyze operating expense (OPEX) deviations compared to budget, forecast, and prior year figures.
d. Budgeting & Financial Planning
- Develop and oversee annual budgets, ensuring they align with organizational goals.
- Assist in OPEX and CAPEX budget preparation, including allocations, freight costs, sales deductions, and variance analysis.
- Upload and maintain budget data in TM1, ensuring seamless ERP integration.
- Support Plan Controllers in reconciling ERP with Controller reports and addressing discrepancies based on business unit requests.
e. Tax Compliance & Planning
- Ensure efficient tax reporting and compliance with group tax processes (half-year, full-year, budget, and forecast).
- Manage timely filing of local tax returns and liaise with tax authorities.
- Identify and implement tax planning strategies in compliance with local tax laws and fiscal regulations.
f. Asset & Inventory Management
- Supervise asset management, ensuring proper capitalization, recording, depreciation, and disposal.
- Conduct physical stock verifications, including counting, posting, and reconciling discrepancies.
- Track capital expenditures and ensure accurate reporting of asset lifecycles.
g. Process Improvement & Controls
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives within the finance function.
- Oversee billing, and customer invoicing, and ensure the accuracy of shared service outputs.
- Advise on local tax developments, reporting obligations, and audit defence strategies.
h. Team Leadership & Development
- Lead, mentor, and develop the finance team to enhance individual and organizational performance.
- Provide coaching, resolve conflicts, and foster a high-performing work environment.
i. Additional Responsibilities
- Act as the main liaison between shared services and business operations, managing escalations and financial clarifications.
- Support HR in calculating performance-based bonuses, including share-based payments and AIP.
- Provide oversight on CAPEX administration and purchase order (PO) approvals.
- Conduct balance sheet reviews, ensuring completeness and accuracy, and assist controllers in resolving outstanding items.
4. Qualifications
a. Education & Knowledge
- Certified Accountant (preferred) with relevant accounting experience.
- Background in manufacturing or industries with multi-revenue stream operations is a plus.
- Strong ability to manage multiple tasks under tight deadlines while maintaining accuracy.
- Proficiency in local accounting standards, IFRS, and SAP systems.
- Experience with VAT, CIT, WHT, and other applicable tax regulations.
b. Experience
- At least 6 years of experience, preferably in an FDI environment and/or a Big 4 Audit Firm.
- Minimum of 2 years in a managerial role overseeing finance teams.
c. Skills & Competencies
- Energetic, dependable, and committed to upholding organizational standards.
- Strong problem-solving and leadership abilities.
- Fluent in English (both spoken and written).
