Responsibilities
- Lead and coach Agile data engineering teams to meet engineering standards across sprint delivery, backlog planning, performance management, code quality, development guardrails, and testing practices
- Drive Agile delivery excellence across data platforms, ensuring high standards in data quality and testing, code review practices, CI/CD for data pipelines, and documentation and operational readiness
- Partner closely with data architects, product managers, analytics teams, platform teams, and governance stakeholders to deliver data capabilities aligned with business priorities
- Own and execute the data engineering roadmap, balancing near-term delivery with long- term platform scalability and sustainability
- Contribute to data platform architecture and design, spanning ingestion, transformation, storage, and consumption layers
- Develop and mentor engineers to become T-shaped practitioners, capable of working across batch, streaming, analytics engineering, and platform domains
- Take ownership of technical and data debt remediation, including legacy pipelines, performance bottlenecks, and data quality issues
- Stay current with modern data engineering tools, patterns, and best practices, particularly within the Databricks ecosystem
- Be accountable for the end-to-end lifecycle of data solutions, from design and build through deployment, monitoring, and ongoing support
- Empower teams to operate with high autonomy and accountability, ensuring the reliability and resilience of data products
- Lead initiatives to enhance data delivery processes, including automation, observability, and operational excellence
- Foster a culture of continuous improvement, experimentation, and innovation through modern delivery practices
- Drive career development and progression for data engineers, partnering with HR on performance management and growth pathways
Requirements
- Over 10 years of experience in software engineering or data engineering
- At least 4 years in engineering leadership roles, preferably within data, analytics, or platform teams
- Experience operating in regulated industries, with a strong preference for banking or financial services
- Strong people leadership capabilities, with a track record of mentoring, developing, and scaling data engineering teams
- Hands-on experience creating and maintaining technical documentation, including architecture designs, runbooks, and data specifications
- Proven ability to work across regions and manage multiple stakeholders, balancing competing priorities effectively
- Deep understanding of data quality, system reliability, and operational excellence in production environments
- Clear ownership of SLAs and SLOs, ensuring data availability and freshness
- Experience collaborating closely with risk, compliance, and audit functions
- Accountability for data cost management and optimisation
- Experience with one of following/ similar technologies:
- Strong hands-on experience with Databricks, Apache Spark, and lakehouse architectures
- Solid understanding of data warehousing principles, dimensional modeling, and analytics-driven use cases
- Proven experience designing, building, and operating batch and streaming data pipelines
- Familiarity with Delta Lake, including data versioning and schema evolution practices
- Good knowledge of data quality, validation, lineage, and data observability frameworks and toolso Strong understanding of cloud platforms - AWS (Lambda, S3, API Gateway, CLI, ECS, EKS, etc.) or Google Cloud Platform is required
- Experience working with formal software development methodologies (e.g., Agile, Scrum, CI/CD)
