Job Title: Manufacturing Engineer – SMD (Sheet Metal Division)
Job Purpose
Responsible for driving continuous improvement in Quality, Lead-time, Technology, and Cost (QLTC) for mass (volume) production of SMD products. This role ensures the seamless transition from NPI to volume production while maintaining high manufacturing standards and operational efficiency.
Key Responsibilities
1. Production & Process Improvement
- Lead the handover of NPI projects and Engineering Changes (ECs) into volume production, ensuring all QLTC targets are achieved.
- Continuously enhance and update engineering documentation for SMD parts, including risk analysis, BOM, work instructions (WI), checklists, and process qualification programs.
- Collaborate closely with the workshop to improve manufacturing processes, tooling, and documentation.
- Review and optimize process control plans to boost manpower efficiency, reduce costs, enhance delivery performance, and reinforce workplace safety (LEAN, CPR, CTR principles).
2. Quality & Data Management
- Collect, analyze, and consolidate production data to evaluate the effectiveness of improvement initiatives.
- Provide technical troubleshooting support to production teams and ensure prompt resolution of process-related issues.
- Work with the Quality Assurance team to execute in-process inspections, perform root cause analysis (RCA), and develop corrective and preventive actions (CAPA) for quality deviations and customer complaints (PDCA methodology).
3. Cross-functional Collaboration & Support
- Partner with cross-functional teams to evaluate new vendors, establish new facilities, and implement new processes.
- Conduct technical and LEAN manufacturing training for operators and team members to strengthen operational capability.
- Participate in EHS programs and initiatives to improve overall plant safety and compliance.
- Perform additional duties as assigned by supervisors.
Qualifications & Requirements Education:
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or Engineering Technology, preferably in Mechanical or Welding Engineering.
Technical Expertise:
- Proficiency in sheet metal manufacturing processes such as laser cutting, bending, drilling, tapping, and welding.
- Strong product and process knowledge.
- Skilled in problem-solving methodologies and continuous improvement tools.
- Experience in LEAN Manufacturing and process management is an advantage.
Preferred Background:
- Over 5 years of experience in fabrication manufacturing with a sheet metal technical background.
Core Competencies
- Knowledge of LEAN Manufacturing and ISO 9001:2015 standards.
- Familiarity with AWS D1.1, D1.2, D1.3, and D1.6 welding codes.
- Strong initiative, innovation mindset, and hands-on problem-solving skills.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication abilities.
- Strong customer orientation and attention to detail.
- Flexible, proactive, and capable of working under pressure and extended hours when required.
- Trustworthy, open, and accountable.
Communication Skills
- Fluent in English (written and spoken); Chinese is an advantage.
Technical & Computer Skills
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (MOS).
- Experience with AutoCAD, SolidWorks, or NX.
- Familiarity with ERP systems such as SAP or Baan.
