Project Director (Steel Plant)

    Job Purpose:

    Ensure that all steel projects are executed effectively, on schedule, with high quality, and optimized cost.
    This role contributes directly to the company’s mission of enhancing production capacity, achieving sustainable growth, and reinforcing its leading position in the steel industry.

    Key Responsibilities:

    • Develop and manage the overall project plan including Master Schedule, budget, timeline, WBS, and baseline control.
    • Organize and coordinate multidisciplinary teams of engineers, contractors, consultants, and suppliers across design – procurement – construction – commissioning stages.
    • Manage progress, quality, safety, and cost under EPC/EPCM models; prepare and submit weekly/monthly project reports to the Board of Management.
    • Control design changes and technical risks; ensure full compliance with relevant standards such as ISO, EN, JIS, ASTM, QCVN.
    • Oversee contract management, quantity verification, legal documentation, and support audits and handover procedures.
    • Represent the investor in working with government authorities, international experts, and environmental & safety assessment bodies.
    • Lead training, technology transfer, and plant commissioning activities.

    Key Performance Indicators (KPIs):

    • ≥95% project progress achieved per quarterly plan.
    • Cost overrun ≤3% of approved budget.
    • Zero major work accidents (LTI = 0).
    • 100% environmental and legal documents approved on time.

    Qualifications Education:

    • Bachelor’s degree or higher in Metallurgy, Mechanical, Mechatronics, or Industrial Construction Engineering (or equivalent). Master’s degree in Project Management or MBA is an advantage.

    Technical Knowledge:

    • Strong understanding of steelmaking and rolling processes (BF–BOF, EAF, RM), auxiliary systems, environmental treatment, and infrastructure in integrated steel complexes.

    • Familiarity with EPC/EPCM project models.

    Technical Skills:

    • Project scheduling and progress control software (e.g., Primavera, MS Project).
    • Cost management, risk control, and design change management.
    • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and international standards.

    Personal Skills:

    • Leadership and decision-making under high pressure.
    • Effective communication and negotiation with international contractors.

    Team & Cross-functional Skills:

    • Build strong collaboration among technical, financial, and legal departments.
    • Coordinate with corporate-level investors and multinational partners for strategic projects.

    Leadership Skills:

    • Lead a team of 100+ engineers and manage Category B or higher industrial projects.
    • Motivate, train, and evaluate project staff.

    Personal Qualities:

    • Integrity, decisiveness, discipline, and result orientation.
    • Strategic mindset and commitment to green innovation.
    • Language Requirements: Able to communicate, negotiate, report, and present technical information in English.

    Experience:

    • Minimum 15 years of experience in heavy industry projects; at least 5 years as Deputy Project Director / EPC Director for large-scale industrial complexes.
    • Prefer candidates with experience in steel projects (BF, DRI, EAF, Rolling Mill, Utilities, Port).
    • Proven experience working with international EPC contractors such as Danieli, SMS, Primetals, Tenova, Sinosteel, or Wisdri....
    • Strong background in managing strategic, multinational projects with large investors or conglomerates.
