Overview
The role involves managing the full functionality of a Polysilicon Laboratory, including lab set-up, instrument installation, site acceptance testing, cleanroom establishment, and commissioning. The position is responsible for quality analysis, safety compliance, regulatory standards, and workforce management. Key accountabilities include talent recruitment, training, skill retention, and long-term planning, ensuring that the laboratory provides accurate and reliable support for operations and product certification.
Key Responsibilities
Laboratory Setup & Operations
- Lead design review of vendor deliverables for critical equipment related to polysilicon operations.
- Supervise lab setup including layout, instrumentation, cleanroom, and testing protocols.
- Conduct equipment inspections, ensure correct installation, and perform factory/site acceptance tests as required.
- Oversee day-to-day laboratory functionality, including analysis, safety, and compliance with quality standards.
- Ensure operation, reliability, and maintenance of key lab instruments such as FT-PL, LT-FTIR, RT-FTIR, and WDXRF.
- Guarantee the availability of testing methods and analytical techniques for chlorosilanes, process samples, raw materials, and environmental compliance (aligned with SEMI standards).
Support for Technology & Operations
- Provide analytical support during commissioning, stabilization, and troubleshooting of polysilicon production.
- Collaborate with operations and technology teams for root cause analysis and quality improvements.
- Implement quality control measures and validate lab analysis results.
- Extend support for lab-scale R&D activities related to hydrochlorination and CVD reactor processes.
Data & Resource Management
- * Act as custodian of analysis schedules and contribute to planning.
- Ensure adequate resources for laboratory IT systems (LIMS/SAP–QM).
- Prepare annual CAPEX and OPEX budgets for laboratory operations.
- Review critical analytical data and provide expert input on quality deviations.
Technology Development & Compliance
- Acquire and implement advanced analytical techniques in polysilicon quality control and assurance.
- Ensure compliance with HSE standards and regulatory requirements.
- Continuously improve lab performance by adopting innovative methods and equipment.
People Development & Training
- * Build a skilled and capable QA/QC team through recruitment, training, and mentoring.
- Develop technical training programs and implement rotational assignments to broaden staff expertise.
- Promote talent retention and build long-term competency within the lab workforce.
Skills & Expertise Required
- Strong knowledge of SEMI, ASTM, and other analytical standards for polysilicon testing.
- Expertise in developing and standardizing analytical methods for product quality evaluation (e.g., dopant levels, interstitials, surface and bulk metal analysis).
- Operation and minor maintenance of laboratory instruments and cleanroom facilities.
- Proficiency in polysilicon process sample testing: raw materials (MG-Si, HCl, HF, HNO3, H2O2), gases (H2, N2, Ar), DI water, and chlorosilanes.
- Skilled in operating and maintaining advanced lab instruments such as CVD/EPI reactors, float-zone pullers, ICP-OES, ICP-MS, AAS, ion chromatography, TOC analyzers, potentiometers, and gas chromatographs.
- Strong knowledge of lab safety protocols and compliance requirements.
- Experience in budgeting for laboratory operations and equipment.
- Familiarity with LIMS and SAP Quality Management systems.
Qualifications & Experience
- Minimum 15 years’ experience in polysilicon QA/QC laboratory operations, including design, setup, and commissioning of greenfield projects.
- Master’s degree in Chemistry, Physics, or Materials Science (required).
- Doctorate in a relevant field (preferred).
